Communication, Teamwork, and Success

To be a successful team, there must be teamwork. To have teamwork, there must be effective communication.
We use communication every day and every time. We send messages to recipients by means of spoken words, written messages, body movements, and non-verbal cues.
We show our feelings, concretize our thoughts, and express our opinions – everything through communication.
Teamwork is about a group of people who works together to achieve a common goal that will benefit the whole team. To mobilize a team, clear objectives must be set. Before commencing actions, planning must be done. To progress towards the realization of a goal, the members must contribute and bring something to the team’s table.

In doing so, it is hard to remove the elements of the communication model in a collaborative environment. There is a need to pass an idea from a sender to a recipient. Moreover, there is a need to send a feedback (another idea) related to the idea. This is present in every stage of a functioning team and this cycle is a never-ending pattern within the team’s setting.
Can you imagine a brainstorming session where no one shares his ideas?
It must be a very unproductive session, if it is so.
As such, communication is an inevitable part of teamwork. For me, effective communication plays a vital role in the success of a team.
Imagine a piece of a wooden stick. A stick can be easily broken into smaller pieces.
Imagine a group of wooden sticks. Bundle them together in an orderly fashion. Even if bent, it will be hard to break a bundle of sticks.
Same goes with a team. When a group of people bonds with each other, decides to work together and aligns their vision towards a common goal, they will begin to realize that achieving their goal will not be too far away.
How do we achieve this?
We COMMUNICATE.
To gain what?
TEAMWORK.
Why do we need teamwork?
To achieve SUCCESS.

Hi Paul,
Your post very nicely and clearly explains the model of effective communication along with the importance and the proper working of a team. But I believe if you would have added some personal experiences in your post, it would have helped in bolstering your arguments.

Anyways, I really like the way you have explained effective communication and related it to teamwork. You have very nicely drawn the connection between the two. Also the metaphor you have used in your post is totally apt. An excellent way to explain the importance of teamwork.

One point which I feel you could have included is the importance of an effective leader in a team. One who is capable enough and has the ability to drive the team towards success by removing any differences between the team members and encouraging them to work effectively as a group.

But all in all, a very nice blog which actually incorporates the seven C’s of writing.
And by the way your home page looks really cool.

Hi Paul,

Interesting post you have here, the mix of pictures and good paragraphing made it an enjoyable and easy read... Especially the first picture, I find it quite amusing.

I like the way you clearly defined teamwork and communication; the ideas and content you have here is definitely useful. The blending of teamwork and communication is also emphasized in your post, and you managed to send a clear message that in order for teamwork to work, communication must be present.

At first glance, I did not find your personal views and opinions on how teamwork and communications is important for you. After browsing through it a second time, I realized that this idea of communication/teamwork fusion thing is exactly what you felt was important for you. The last portion of your post also tells me that success (written in caps) is also quite important for you. Well, to me, the act of dreaming to be successful is already a success by itself, therefore in my opinion you are already halfway through on your road to success!

By the way, I also like your chopsticks example. It is examples like these that help readers understand the underlying ideas better. Just in case you have not realized this; I also had a similar example in my blog. Haha... hence before anyone starts saying I’m only trying to self-flatter myself, I better stop.

Cheers
Zhen Yong

Hello Paul,

Firstly, I'd like to commend on the use of pictures. The first picture of teamwork is amazing! They say a picture speaks a thousand words and I certainly think so from this picture.

Your blog post shows how effective communication and teamwork are important. The way these two are interlinked with one another is essential in being successful at the tasks at hand. "We communicate to gain teamwork to achieve success".

The example about the bundle of sticks mentioned in your blog post was fitting in terms of teamwork being important. The bond that forms with good teamwork is definitely hard to break.

Your blog is refreshing and nice to read. Not to forget the nicely styled homepage. Keep posting meaningful pictures and interesting blog posts!

Cheers,

Hi Paul,

Your post clearly explains the communication model and also explains the importance of effective communication in the team. I feel that effective communication plays a vital role for a team to achieve its goal.

The first picture it reminds me of the importance of teamwork. Since teamwork is essential for competing in today’s global arena and for the teamwork to be effective, members in team must effectively communicate so as to express their plans, share their ideas and understand each other viewpoints clearly. Likely said, most of the communication models are two-way process and there is a need for the receiver to send a feedback related to idea.
Apart from effective communication, for the teamwork to be effective the members of team must be well committed and the team leader should be a role model to the other members.

I acknowledge the way you have explained the communication model and teamwork ,and have linked the two keywords very well, and finally you have made your post more concrete by providing a suitable example (group of wooden sticks)and comparing it with the team.
Last but not the least, your homepage is cool and it is a pleasure to read your post and you have used the 7c's very well.

Regards,
Santhosh
